Learn to:

  • Recognize defaults associated with ring systems, atoms, and bonds
  • Isolate ring systems
  • Change node characteristics
  • Change bond characteristics
  • Use STN-defined variable groups including modification of their generic definition and of the element counts

 

 

Skill Level:  Beginner

 

Prerequisites:

  • STN Basics Parts 1, 2, and 3 and STN Structure Searching Part 1

or

  • Competencies with keyword searching in bibliographic databases and using the HELP, FILE, EXPAND, SEARCH, DISPLAY, LOGOFF, FOCUS, and INDEX commands
  • Ability to competently apply logic operators, truncation, and proximity operators as well as to search in specialized fields
  • Know how to use CAS roles and the SELECT CHEM command, conduct effective substance searches, and retrieve bibliographic references associated with chemical substances
  • Skill in drawing chemical structures, uploading them for searching, and finding associated references for selected substances
