Visit the V-Lab Learning Path for suggested prerequisite.

Learn to:

  • Accommodate repeating groups in a structure
  • Define your own variable groups using the G-Group feature
  • Tag a substituent to appear at variable positions on a ring

     

    Skill Level:  Intermediate

     

    Prerequisites:

    • STN Basics Parts 1, 2, and 3 and STN Structure Searching Parts 1 and 2

    or

    • Competencies with keyword searching in bibliographic databases and using the HELP, FILE, EXPAND, SEARCH, DISPLAY, LOGOFF, FOCUS, and INDEX commands
    • Ability to competently apply logic operators, truncation, and proximity operators as well as to search in specialized fields
    • Know how to use CAS roles and the SELECT CHEM command, conduct effective substance searches, and retrieve bibliographic references associated with chemical substances
    • Skill in drawing chemical structures and modifying bonds, atoms or rings, uploading them for searching, and finding associated references for selected substances
